Trying to describe music with words is awkward; you’re much better off just listening to it. However, if you think it will help, I encourage you to read my little reviews of these amazing albums and then have a listen!

Fantasies by Metric

I have an unusually difficult time picking favorites, but Metric is hands-down my favorite band ever, and I am pretty sure Fantasies is my favorite of all their albums. They were my first concert (which I actually just attended in June 2009) and Emily Haines, who does lead vocals, keys/synth, & songwriting, is one of my two musical heroes. Fantasies has been repeating on my iPod for months now. It’s more positive feeling than their other albums; you can have a laundry-folding dance party with it or, as always, by listening closely you can decipher the depths & meanings of Emily’s lyrics. I highly recommend this album and give it 5 stars. (Be forewarned that “Satellite Mind” includes a ‘lovely’ f-bomb but is otherwise awesome.)

A Good Day by Priscilla Ahn

Totally different from Metric, Priscilla Ahn’s debut album is soft, folksy, and acoustic. Her music has become a huge influence on my own; her melodies are haunting & inspiring and her voice is a smooth, beautiful lullaby. Turn on this album when you’re feeling sentimental, or perhaps when it’s raining. I give this album 5 stars & again, highly recommended!

Fleet Foxes are my new obsession, with both their EP Sun Giant and their self-titled album being freaking fantastic. Their music is officially my soundtrack for the coming winter. They are all harmonies, folksiness, mandolins, and awesome. Their sound feels like something from a hundred years ago, but without being a second outdated. I can’t get enough of tracks like White Winter Hymnal, Ragged Wood, and Blue Ridge Mountains. If your taste is anything like mine, you will love Fleet Foxes. If it is not like mine, I am very sorry for you (kidding). Again, 5 stars (why do I even bother saying that?) & highly recommended!

In the Moonlight by Dawn Mitschele
I recently had the beautiful privelage of seeing Dawn perform a small live show. I even had a chance to talk to her afterwards, and I’m glad to say she is as sweet & encouraging as her music is wonderful. I’m not even sure how to describe it; all I know is that I love her sound and I can’t stop listening to this album; she is probably my new #1 inspiration for my own music. You should definitely check her out if you like acoustic stuff.
